Clomid ovulation calculator: when will I ovulate on Clomid or letrozole?

Free tool · private, nothing is stored · Updated October 26, 2026

Ovulation usually happens Sat, Oct 31 – Thu, Nov 5

Last of 5 pills: Mon, Oct 26 (cycle day 9). Ovulation typically follows 5 to 10 days after the last pill; start LH tests around Thu, Oct 29. Always follow your fertility clinic’s timing, which may include a scan or trigger shot.

How it works

A Clomid ovulation calculator starts from your last pill. Clomid is usually taken for 5 days, starting on cycle day 3, 4 or 5, and ovulation typically follows 5 to 10 days after the last pill. If you take it on days 5 to 9, expect ovulation around days 14 to 19, and start ovulation tests around day 12.

How the Clomid ovulation calculator works

Clomid (clomiphene citrate) and letrozole are tablets that help the ovaries grow and release an egg. Both are usually taken once a day for 5 days early in the cycle. MedlinePlus describes the usual clomiphene course as starting on or about day 5. The calculator works from that course:

  1. Enter the first day of this period (cycle day 1: the first day of real bleeding).
  2. Choose the cycle day you took your first pill: day 3, 4 or 5.
  3. The calculator finds your last (fifth) pill, then shows the usual ovulation window: 5 to 10 days after the last pill.
  4. It also suggests starting LH ovulation tests 3 days after your last pill, so you catch the surge.

Clomid ovulation days at a glance

Pills taken onLast pillStart LH testsOvulation usually

Days 4 to 8Day 8Day 11days 13 to 18
Days 5 to 9Day 9Day 12days 14 to 19

Clomid can make ovulation a little later than in a natural cycle, and some people with very irregular cycles ovulate later than this window. That's why tests or scans matter more than dates alone.

Worked example

Your period started on 1 June. You took your first Clomid tablet on cycle day 5 (5 June), so your last tablet was on day 9 (9 June). Ovulation usually happens between 14 and 19 June. You start ovulation tests on 12 June and get a positive on 16 June: the best days for sex are 16, 17 and 18 June. About two weeks after ovulation, around 30 June, a pregnancy test becomes reliable if your period hasn't come.

Using it as a letrozole ovulation calculator

Letrozole (Femara) is often prescribed the same way: one tablet a day for 5 days, commonly on days 3 to 7 or 5 to 9. Ovulation timing after the last tablet is broadly similar, so the calculator works as a letrozole ovulation calculator too. For people with PCOS, a large 2014 trial in the New England Journal of Medicine found more live births with letrozole than with clomiphene (27.5% vs 19.1%), which is why many clinics now start with letrozole.

How to confirm you ovulated

  • LH tests at home: a positive suggests ovulation within about a day or two.
  • Ultrasound scans at the clinic show the follicle growing. Some clinics then give a trigger shot to time ovulation; follow their timing, not the calculator's.
  • A day 21 (or 7 days after ovulation) progesterone blood test checks whether ovulation happened.
  • Basal body temperature rises after ovulation, so it confirms it in hindsight.

Side effects, mood and what's normal

Many people notice hot flashes, headaches, bloating or breast tenderness on Clomid, and some feel more emotional or irritable. In the 2014 trial, clomiphene caused more hot flashes, while letrozole caused more tiredness and dizziness. According to the ASRM, the chance of twins is about 5% to 8% with these tablets. Fertility treatment is a lot to carry, and logging how you feel each day can make it easier to tell drug side effects from your usual cycle moods.

When to call your doctor

Call your doctor right away if you have blurred or double vision, spots or flashes in your vision, belly pain or swelling, sudden weight gain, or shortness of breath. These can be signs of a serious side effect such as ovarian hyperstimulation. Also check in if you don't ovulate after a cycle on the tablets, or if you've had several cycles without success: clomiphene isn't usually used for more than about six cycles.

Frequently asked questions

How many days after Clomid do you ovulate?

Usually 5 to 10 days after the last pill. If you take Clomid on days 5 to 9, that's around cycle days 14 to 19.

When should I start ovulation tests on Clomid?

About 3 days after your last pill, and test daily until you get a positive. Your clinic may give different timing if you're having scans.

Does Clomid make you ovulate later?

It can. Many people ovulate a little later than in natural cycles, and those with very irregular cycles may ovulate later still, so tests or scans are worth using.

Is letrozole timing the same as Clomid?

It's broadly similar: 5 days of tablets early in the cycle, then ovulation about a week after the last one. Always follow your clinic's instructions.

Can I take Clomid without a doctor?

No. Clomid and letrozole are prescription medicines that need medical supervision, because of side effects and the higher chance of twins.
