Period trackers with mood tracking: which ones help with PMS?

3 min read 路 Updated October 26, 2026

The short answer

Most period apps let you log mood, but few turn it into something useful. Clue forecasts PMS and energy dips. Flo offers personalized insights. Stardust predicts PMS and moods. Me v PMDD is a free, detailed symptom tracker. Lulu is built around mood: it shows how you usually feel each cycle day and gives a heads-up before harder days.

Why track mood with your cycle?

More than 9 in 10 women report some premenstrual symptoms, and mood changes (irritability, sadness, anxiety) are among the most common. Tracking mood alongside your cycle does two things: it shows whether your low days really cluster before your period, and it gives you something concrete to bring to a doctor. Daily ratings over at least two cycles are exactly what clinicians ask for when assessing PMS or PMDD.

How Lulu's mood forecast works

Each day you tap how you feel. Lulu lines those check-ins up with your cycle days. After a couple of cycles it can show how you usually feel on, say, day 24: often tired and a bit tender. Before days that tend to be harder, it sends a gentle heads-up, so you can plan a lighter evening or warn someone you trust.

PeriodOften tired but relieved as PMS fades.
FollicularMood and energy usually climb.
OvulationOften the most social, confident days.
LutealWhere PMS mood swings live. Lulu's heads-up matters most here.

It's a pattern, not a prophecy. Lulu never claims to know how you'll feel; it shows how you've usually felt. Try the idea with our mood by phase forecast, and read more about PMS mood swings.

Tips for useful mood tracking

  • Check in at roughly the same time every day. Evenings work for most people.
  • Log the bad days and the good ones. Patterns need both.
  • Give it at least two full cycles before drawing conclusions.
  • Note big outside events (illness, travel, a breakup) so they don't get mistaken for your cycle.

If your premenstrual mood is severe (deep depression, rage, panic, or feeling out of control) and disrupts work or relationships every cycle, talk to a doctor about PMDD; our PMDD self-check can help you prepare. If you have thoughts of harming yourself, get help now: in the US call or text 988, in the UK call Samaritans on 116 123.
