Clue alternatives: period trackers worth a look

3 min read 路 Updated October 26, 2026

The short answer

If Clue isn't quite right, the best alternative depends on the gap. Apple Cycle Tracking is free and built into iPhone. Flo has more content and pregnancy features. Lulu focuses on mood patterns, with no account and data kept on your iPhone. Natural Cycles is cleared by the FDA as contraception. Stardust adds astrology and friend syncing.

First: what Clue does well

Clue is a thoughtful app. It's science-led, with research partnerships with universities, an inclusive voice, more than 200 trackable symptoms and experiences, symptom forecasts and modes for conceiving, pregnancy and perimenopause. As a Berlin company it works under GDPR, and it says it never sells health data. If you love detail and evidence, Clue is a strong choice.

People look for a Clue alternative for different reasons: they want something simpler, something free without upsells, a mood-focused view, partner sharing, or an app that doesn't need an account at all.

Which one fits you

"Clue is too much." Try Apple Cycle Tracking

If you only want to log periods and see predictions, Apple's free Cycle Tracking in the Health app is clean and private. With an Apple Watch Series 8 or later, it adds retrospective ovulation estimates from wrist temperature.

"I want my mood, not 200 options." Try Lulu

Lulu asks one question a day: how do you feel? After a couple of cycles it shows how you usually feel on each cycle day and nudges you before harder days. It also predicts your period, fertile window and ovulation, imports Apple Watch wrist temperature, works with Apple Health, and has perimenopause mode. No account; cycle data stays on your iPhone. See Lulu vs Clue.

"I want everything in one place." Try Flo

Flo covers periods, pregnancy and perimenopause with a huge library and partner sharing. Read about its 2021 FTC order before deciding. See Lulu vs Flo.

"I need contraception." Try Natural Cycles

Natural Cycles is the only app on this list cleared as a method of birth control. Clue, Lulu, Flo, Stardust and Apple's Cycle Tracking are not contraception. See Lulu vs Natural Cycles.

"I want it to be fun." Stardust

Stardust is playful and social. Mozilla's 2026 research found it sharing symptom and reproductive details with an analytics firm, tied to an identifier; Stardust says the firm is contractually barred from selling or reusing it. Weigh that up.

Switching tips

  • Note your last 3 to 6 period start dates before you switch. A new app learns your cycle faster with history.
  • Check whether your new app works with Apple Health, so data from one place can flow to the other.
  • If you're leaving an account-based app, delete your account from inside the app, not just the app icon.
  • Give any new tracker two or three cycles before judging its predictions.
The privacy label test

On each app's App Store page, scroll to "App Privacy". Clue's US listing names Identifiers under "Data Used to Track You"; compare that with any alternative you're considering.
